The Lieutenancy held a very successful drinks party and reception in Abbey St Bathans Village Hall on Thursday 21st September. The event was organised by Mrs Joy Dobie DL and was a “thank you” to all the people from around the Abbey St Bathans area who had made an outstanding contribution to the local community during Covid and in the years since.
A presentation was made during the event to Mrs Louise McGeoch to mark her retiral and the years of invaluable service she has given to the Berwickshire Lieutenancy. Louise has been Clerk to the Lieutenancy since 2014 and is retiring in December, she will be sadly missed.
The Lord Lieutenant unveiled a plaque next to the tree which has been planted outside the Hall. The tree was planted a year ago as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth and her Green Canopy Project.
The highlight of the evening was the presence of the two Lord Lieutenants Cadets, Cadet Sgt Simpson from 1 Platoon Eyemouth and Able Cadet Fletcher from the Dunbar Sea Cadets. They welcomed the Guests as they arrived, handed round canapes and then gave a very enthusiastic and informative talk about their time in the cadets.
We would also like to thank Mike Lucas for entertaining us with his guitar during the evening and everyone who helped make and hand round canapes and drinks. There was a great buzz of conversation in the Hall during the evening and hopefully a lot of friends were met and new ones made.
