On 11th September 2012 The Princess Royal represented The Queen at a Borders wide service of thanksgiving for The Queen’s reign as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Princess Royal was met by the Scottish Borders’ Lord Lieutenants for Roxburgh Ettrick and Lauderdale, Berwickshire and Tweeddale on her arrival at Melrose.

Six hundred guests, including 187 from Berwickshire, were invited to the service in Melrose Parish Church.  Following the service The Princess Royal met members of the public including the principals of local summer festivals and many local school children who turned out to give The Princess a very warm welcome to The Borders.

The Princess Royal made her way to a reception in a marquee in Gibson Park for 200 guests, 66 from Berwickshire, who represented various local groups, many of whom were presented to Her Royal Highness.  During the reception The Princess Royal presented two BEM honours, one to Mr John Falla of Bonchester Bridge and one to Mrs Elsie Brown of Ayton.
